'Eve' Print

$28.00

A piece created for the same final art project in sixth form:
This piece depicts Eve, who is present in Christianity and some African Creation stories. Through the medium of art I wanted to delve into the popular idea of Eve being a symbol of temptation.

This piece depicts Eve bowing her head in utter shame as many creation stories would describe. I aimed to illustrate the story behind the woman-led disorder and chaos brought into the world because she is portrayed as the ‘first person to disobey God’. She would have brought ‘a curse’ onto mankind.

– The Caricatures surrounding Eve display expressions of despair, agony, paranoia and shame.
– The Nsibidi in the background of the piece represent disunity, hatred etc.
– Eve’s head, and the figure above eve both display demonic horns, to represent her fall from grace.
– The caricature above Eve’s head, has symbols in it’s eyes translating to ‘death’ illustrating how in creation stories, Eve has brought a plague of death upon the world.

This piece was designed alongside ‘Adam’. Both pieces aimed to delve into the gendered components of religious creation stories, paying careful attention to how men and women are depicted.
