'Adam' Print

$28.00

A piece created for my final sixth form/college art project: My final project was about looking at the relationship between the Christian creation story and other West African creation stories.

This piece depicts Adam, who is present in Christianity and some African Creation stories. Through the medium of art I wanted to delve into the popular idea of Adam being dragged down by the 'woman's careless actions' into eternal evil.  The idea behind the stories seem to highlight that Adam should have been destined for glory, and raise his head high.

- The caricature surrounding Adam, reflect how Adam is seen by most Christians and religious people (destined for Glory, Holy).
- Adam in the middle has his head held high, depicted as a powerful, reflective figure.
- The background has Nsibidi symbols (an ancient Nigerian language writing system) - these are positive symbols, which mean unity, love etc.

This piece was designed alongside 'Eve'. Both pieces aimed to delve into the gendered components of religious creation stories, paying careful attention to how men and women are depicted.
